Our Other Animals in Need

Many people ask why we cannot take more animals in, when we have "only" two or three dogs up for adoption. Some people think that the dogs on our site are the only ones we are caring for. Please realize that the dogs ready for new homes have been rehabilitated, housebroken and are healthy enough to be adopted. We do, however, still have other animals in our care that still really need help and aren't ready to go to other families yet. A few are very special needs and will most likely stay with us indefinitely. Meet the faces and stories of our  dogs in need below that still need specialized care, help, and donations.

Bubba - Bubba is a blind and partially deaf senior Amercian Bulldog that ended up in a gassing shelter. He needs ongoing vet care to monitor his kidneys due to his age and breed, and risks developing painful glaucoma in both eyes.

Senior Mamma - This sweet girl is at least 13 years old and wound up in another high-kill shelter that uses gas chambers. When she came to us she had a tumor, sarcoptic mange, ear mites and was diagnosed with heart worm. While she is recovering beautifully, she must undergo expensive heartworm treatments and is on a specialized diet for compromised and weakened immune system.

George - George has become our mascot for our rescue efforts. This poor little guy wound up in a shelter here in NY with very painful glaucoma in his right eye. This condition was extremely painful, so much so that he needed the eye removed; an expensive, but necessary procedure. This procedure unfortunately left George, who is 11 years old, completely blind. But that doesn't stop him from being a happy dog who loves toys, treats and his other dog friends and cats. The vets have spotted a weakness in his renal system and must be on special medication for his kidneys to prevent failure, and also medication for his remaining eye to prevent it from developing into the painful condition the other eye had.

Baby Elephant and Raccoon - These two girls came from a pit bull fighting ring in which they were starved nearly to death and had extremely severe demotex mange. They are almost completely recovered but still have a little to go yet before being ready for adoption yet. They are still undergoing last stages of treatment for the mange, and will also need to be spayed once they have fully recovered.
BigPoppaFaceJuly.jpg (Md:300x225)
Big Poppa - Big Poppa was one of the worst dogs we have ever seen, many of the intake pictures we have of him are too graphic to post. This dog should have weighed 90 pounds and weighed 25 when we got him from a NY shelter that confiscated him from a fighting ring. He had severe demode mange, intestinal worms, ear mites, alopecia of the skin and digestive problems linked to extreme malnutrition. This sweet boy is doing better but still has a long way to go. He is still undergoing aggressive intensive vet treatment for his mange, must eat a special diet tailored to his immune system and needs medication to stave off ear infections and problems. He also has severe skeletal and bone deformity due to being kept in a crate too small for him without any light for very long periods of time. He needs constant physical therapy to elongate his muscles and get his bones to straighten out instead of rounding and curving.
midnight.jpg (Md:300x225)
Midnight - Midnight is an elderly cat left behind after a divorce. She is completely blind, declawed and has an extremely sensitive coat and digestive problems causing her to fail at gaining weight. She requires special care and mediciation to prevent intestinal obstructions as well as a hazard-proof enviornment due to her visual disability.
